V'Tropez - Son of Galoubet A

Pedigree Pictures Video Offspring Info

V'Tropez is one of those powerful, proud beings who does not subscribe to the idea of 'old'.    He is a very proud, extremely smart and athletic horse who likes to put on a big show and is a marshmallow under it all.

When no one is watching he is very cuddly and sweet.  If he knows he has an audience he puffs his neck and looks serious.  His favourite interactive activity is when I rub his gums.

The first time I met V'Tropez he galloped up to me and stopped a few inches away with his neck arched.  He was 19 years old.  I loved his power and smart eye.  He also does not believe in the 'you can't teach an old dog a new trick' idea.  Within a month of being with us he had learnt many new things.

A breeder who knew him previously could not believe it was the same horse.

I started riding him and he was in heaven.  We would jump every now and then and he is the most powerful, quick horse I have ever jumped.    After jumping him I would be pumped for hours. What a rush.   He is now enjoying his retirement and is our sentinel.  His paddock is at the entrance to the farm where he keeps a close eye on those coming and going.  He puts on a good show and loves impressing those watching, horse or person.

V'Tropez is a stallion for those who want to produce top level competition horses that are smart and like to work.

Technical details into his illustrious pedigree (Galoubet A x Good Twist) follow.

If you are looking to produce a foal for competition at the higher levels, V'Tropez is certainly worth your consideration.

I personally can't wait to ride the resulting foal between him and Meggie via embryo transfer.

Pedigree Analysis

As a brief summary V'Tropez has the following influential show jumping / dressage producers closely in his pedigree:

Paternal Side:  Galoubet A, Alme Z, Viti

Maternal Side:  Good Twist.

Paternal Side

Galoubet A - sire of V'Tropez

As a seven year old Galoubet started to compete internationally where his spectacular jump won him a legion of fans. Galoubet won the Grand Prix at Wiesbaden, and placed 15th at the European Championships. The pair also took out the French national title that year. In 1980, Galoubet continued to win in the Nations Cups - in Aachen, Chaudefontaine, Longchamp and Toronto (second in New York). He was eighth at the World Cup final in Baltimore, and eighth at the Alternative Olympic Games in Rotterdam. The following season Galoubet won three World Cup qualifiers in a row at Antwerp, s’Hertogenbosch and Dortmund,

Following a brilliant performance at the World Championships in Dublin in 1982 - where he was part of the gold medal winning team and just missed the four horse jump-off - Galoubet’s owner, Jean-François Pelligrin retired the stallion to stud at the age of ten. Out of his first foal crop 'Q' came twelve licensed stallions, and nearly all of them jumped internationally. Qredo de Paulstra jumped internationally with Xavier Leredde and went on to sire 14 stallion sons of his own, while Quick Star, out of a famous jumping mare, Stella (campaigned by Phillipe Jouy and Nelson Pessoa) had a wonderful international career with German based American rider, Meredith Michaels, now Meredith Beerbaum, who is currently having huge success with another Stella, by Quick Star.

Soon the offspring were making his name in the jumping rings - Si Jolie II (Godignon), Sieur de Salines (Mathy), In the USA there was The Developer, U'Grand Jete and Galoway, in Switzerland, Quivient de Boisy and Hildon Sorain, and in Ireland, Touchdown - who was a good performer but who achieved lasting fame as the sire of World Champion Liscalgot.  Galoubet has not only been a very good sire in his own right, but also appears to be a sire of sires, aside from Baloubet du Rouet (Rodrigo Pessoa) and Quick Star, there are Qredo de Paulstra (sire of Quattro who stands at the Böckmann stud in Oldenburg and sire of Kristy Oatley's Quando Quando), Quiniou (sire of French team horse at the Sydney Games, Barbarian) and the Belgian stallion, Skippy II whose progeny are making their mark on the international stage. He has also proven a good sire of broodmares.

Alme Z - sire of Galoubet A

The Selle Français stallion, Almé influenced showjumping bloodlines all over Europe. Almé was by the great French stallion, Ibrahim out of Girondine.

Almé at the age of five, showed great potential, ridden by Bernard Geneste. After his first season at stud, he was sold to the American Fred Lorimer Graham, who competed him for the next two years. Almé went on to compete internationally with François Mathy and Johan Heins, and sired many international performers. Before he left France for Belgium, he produced the stallion sons, Galoubet, I Love You, and Jalisco, all of whom competed internationally. At the time Almé stood at Zangersheide, the horses bred there were being registered in the Hanoverian studbook but this did not prevent the Almé genes making their way to Holstein where they were happy to use Ahorn Z (out of the Holstein mare, Heureka) and Aloubé Z and Athlet Z, both out of Hanoverian mares of Gotthard breeding. In the south west of Germany, Alexis Z - who is out of the Hanoverian mare, Wonne, herself an international performer with Peter Schmitz - was enormously successful and he was soon used in both Holstein and Hannover.  The Almé grandson, Quidam de Revel has more recently been used in Holstein.

Almé's Statistics from the 2002 FEI World Equestrian Games in Jerez

92 Total horses participated at the WEG: 32 uncastrated males, 31 geldings, 29 mares 5 stallions had more than one horse participating: Quidam de Revel (5) Capitol I (4) Le Tot de Semilly (3) Robin IZ (2) Touchdown (2) Quidam de Revel, Robin I Z, and Touchdown are all grandsons of Almé. Almé had a total of 21 horses (22.3%) in the WEG competition descended from him. At the end of the speed class and Nations Cup, 9 (36%) of the Top 25 horses were descended from Almé. After two rounds of the Individual Championship, 4 (40%) of the Top 10 were descended from Almé. Of the four horses in the final round, 3 (75%) were descended from Almé.

In 2002 his great grand daughter Liscalgot won World Chanpionship individual gold for Dermott Lennon of Ireland. She is a daughter of Touchdown who was by Galoubet A.

Notable Sons of Almé Z include:  Ahorn Z Aladin Z Alexis Z Aloubé Z Animo Athlet Z Aerobic Galoubet A Ilmeo I Love You - 1983 World Cup Final Winner Jalisco B Jalme des Musnuls Vico

Maternal Side

Good Twist xx - sire of V'Tropez's dam Nascency.

Good Twist competed internationally under Frank Chapot and won 21 International events for the US team.  Frank Chapot then used Good Twist to produce the Hall of Fame inductee Gem Twist who under three different riders won the title of Grand Prix Horse of the Year on four separate occassions.  Gem Twist won the silver medal at the 1997 Pan American Games and Silver medal at the 1998 Olympics in Seoul Korea.
